How flagging works

PLAIN-ENGLISH GUIDE

No black box.
Every flag has a reason.

We check repeated transaction patterns between the same cashier and loyalty account. The rules are fixed, visible and reproducible. A flag means “review this”—not “fraud proven.”

Start here

What is a high-frequency day?

The same loyalty account completes 6 or more transactions with the same cashier on one day.

HIGH

Strong, repeated pattern

Mark High when any one of these three rule sets is met:

Repeated high-frequency days

  • 3+ high-frequency days
  • Across 2+ weeks
  • 30+ total transactions
  • Same cashier handles 60%+ of the member’s activity

Repeated extreme days

  • 2+ separate days with 10+ transactions
  • 25+ total transactions
  • Same cashier handles 70%+ of activity

Persistent weekly pattern

  • 2+ suspicious weeks
  • A suspicious week has 3+ active days or 15+ transactions
  • 40+ total transactions
  • Same cashier handles 60%+ of activity

REVIEW

Concerning, but needs checking

Mark Review when either rule is met:

Repeated busy days

  • 2+ high-frequency days
  • 15+ total transactions
  • Same cashier handles 40%+ of activity

Recurring weekly visits

  • 2+ active days per week
  • In at least 2 different weeks
  • 20+ total transactions
  • Same cashier handles 50%+ of activity

NOT FLAGGED

Frequency alone is not suspicious

✓ Normal purchases on several days✓ Regular weekly shopping✓ Several visits with normal checkout volume✓ One unusual day with no recurrence✓ Activity spread across many cashiers

Why this allows for house-help and office purchases

A house-help or office assistant may shop several times a week. That alone does not trigger a strong alert. The rules look for a combination of repetition, many transactions in one day, persistence across weeks, meaningful total volume and concentration with the same cashier.

Example that would not be flaggedShopping three times a week, with one normal checkout each visit.
